講義概要/Course description
This course serves as an introduction to the use of written and spoken English in conveying information about organized activities involving relatively small groups of people. The topics will be various popular (and not-so-popular) sports and, to a lesser extent, games.
達成目標/Course objectives
In terms of English, students who successfully complete the course will have demonstrably improved their abilities to communicate to and within groups using primarily asynchronous communication, both spoken and written.
Students should have learned how to present and understand information in written form and how to present and understand information in spoken form.
履修条件(事前に履修しておくことが望ましい科目など)/Prerequisite
The instructor assumes all students will have a working knowledge of high-school-level English before joining the class.
Students will need to have an Internet-connected device to complete the homework assignments.

授業方法/Method of instruction
The class activities will be split between short lectures by both the instructor and students, group discussions and other activities, and reviews and revisions of the products of group work and homework. Much of the material for study in later parts of the course will be presented by other students.
The language skills involved will be speaking (in small groups, in pairs, and in presentations and other one-way speech), listening (both in interactive and one-way settings), reading (both of professionally written materials and of student-written materials), and writing.

メッセージ/Message
Active participation and respectful treatment of other participants are required. Students must contribute to class activities for each session, even when absent or late. Please notify the instructor regarding absences or late arrivals before the class session begins.
Students are not required to be athletic or to know about sports before the class begins.
その他/Others
Written homework should be submitted online. In most cases, the homework deadlines will be Monday mornings at 4:30 AM. This is to allow the instructor time to evaluate the homework before class time. Late homework is marked down periodically.
Students are responsible for all work during the semester, even in case of absence. Students are responsible for showing the instructor the work has been finished.
It is the student’s responsibility to show the instructor she’s done the work. Instructor will not actively check. 欠席したり遅刻しても宿題をやった場合、講師からは何も言いませんが、自ら講師に宿題をやったことを申し出てください。
All English must be original. 宿題の英語は自分で考えた英語を書かなければいけません。インターネットの英訳サービスを使ってはいけません。
Cell phones must be turned off during tests. 試験中、携帯電話・スマートフォン・タブレットは必ず電源を切ってください。
Students disturbing class will be asked to leave. 他の学生の集中を邪魔する学生は、退出してもらいます。
